Jaren Jackson Jr.’s reaction to Jazz’s Darryn Peterson pick says it all

It is safe to say that Jaren Jackson Jr. is loving the Utah Jazz’s decision to go with Darryn Peterson in the 2026 NBA Draft.

Shortly after the Jazz made the former Kansas Jayhawks basketball star the second pick overall, Jackson sent out a social media post showing his feelings about that move.

Jackson reposted the Jazz’s announcement of their Peterson pick and accompanied it with a caption that shows just two purple heart emojis.

Peterson never visited the Jazz before the draft. In fact, he only showed up for the Washington Wizards, but he ultimately fell in Utah’s lap after the Wizards decided to go with BYU Cougars basketball star AJ Dybantsa for the No. 1 overall pick.

It was mostly a debate between Peterson and Dybantsa as to whose name would be called first in the draft, but it will be what they do on the court in the pros that offers more intrigue.

Peterson is viewed as a terrific scorer, and his numbers in his only year in college back that up. In 24 games with Bill Self’s Jayhawks, Peterson averaged 20.2 points and shot 38.2 percent from behind the arc, while adding 4.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.4 steals. His health was a concern in college, but that did not stop Utah from adding him via the draft.

The Jazz failed to make the NBA Playoffs for the fourth season in a row in the 2025-26 campaign, but they are a team with an interesting future and a promising backcourt that now features Peterson and Keyonte George.
