'It was quite tough' - Shivam Dube reveals how he pulled off train journey after India's T20 World Cup win
India’s all-rounder Shivam Dube has opened up on his unusual and challenging train journey back home after India’s triumphant T20 World Cup 2026 campaign, opting for a train ride due to unavailability of flights. Following Team India’s historic win in Ahmedabad, Dube couldn’t secure a flight to Mumbai due to rush.
Unlike most of his teammates who travelled via chartered or private planes, the hard-hitting all-rounder chose to take a train in a 3rd AC coach to reach home quickly, despite the risk of being recognised by fans.
In a video shared by Chennai Super Kings on X, Dube opened up about how he managed to stay under the radar during the journey.
“It was quite tough. We took the train around 5 a.m., and there were many people. But since it was right after the World Cup, no one expected me to be there. I went to the top berth and slept for some time. We slept around 5:30 and woke up at 10:30,” claimed Dube.
Interestingly, Dube mentioned that this wasn’t the first time he had travelled incognito by train. He recalled a similar experience last year during a domestic tournament.
“I had done this before as well, wearing a mask. Last year, before the IPL, I travelled by train from a BPCL tournament in Baroda because I wanted to reach home early. I was sleeping on my berth, and there were a few friends with me,” he added.

Meanwhile, Dube is set to reunite with his IPL franchise, where he will be joined by fellow India teammate Sanju Samson for the first time. Speaking about Samson’s upcoming stint with the Chennai-based side, Dube shared that he had already given him a glimpse of what to expect.
“You'll love it. It will feel like home. There's no pressure, you can just focus on your practice and training” he said.
Sanju Samson was traded to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ahead of this year’s IPL, and had a stellar T20 World Cup for the hosts. He was given the Player of the Tournament award for his breathtaking performances in the knockout stages of the competition.
