IShowSpeed lands anime series with a One Piece twist
IShowSpeed is taking one of his biggest swings yet, and this one moves far beyond livestream chaos and viral clips. The YouTube star, whose real name is Darren Jason Watkins Jr., is set to voice an anime-style series now in development at Brian Robbins’ Big Shot Pictures, giving his larger-than-life persona a new home in scripted storytelling, per Variety.
Details about the plot remain under wraps, but the project will feature an animated version of IShowSpeed, which makes the show one of his first major narrative-driven efforts. That alone gives the announcement weight. Speed built his global following through raw energy, unpredictable moments, and nonstop audience connection. Now that same presence will shape a project built for a different kind of screen experience.
IShowSpeed is getting his own anime series written by live-action One Piece showrunner Matt Owens.

A Major Creative Step for IShowSpeed
The creative team adds another layer of intrigue. Matt Owens, who helped guide Netflix’s first two seasons of “One Piece,” will write and produce the series alongside Robbins. Filmmaker and actor Harmony Korine also joins as a producer, giving the package an unusual mix of anime credibility and offbeat creative muscle.
Speed made it clear this move means something personal to him. “I’ve always loved anime, so being able to create something like this is a dream come true for me,” he said in a statement. “The team behind this project is incredibly talented, and I can’t wait for my fans around the world to see what we’re building together.”
Robbins echoed that excitement and pointed to Speed’s rare reach across borders and platforms. With more than 52 million YouTube subscribers and back-to-back Streamer of the Year wins in 2024 and 2025, Speed already commands a massive audience. This series now gives him a chance to turn that following into something bigger.
