Is Aaron Rodgers in the building for Steelers’ first OTA after new contract?
The Pittsburgh Steelers must be thrilled that they don’t have to wait around for Aaron Rodgers anymore. Rodgers signed a one-year contract worth $25 million on May 16th, solving Pittsburgh’s quarterback position in 2026. He is already making his presence felt at the team’s training facility.
Rodgers is in the building for the start of OTAs, per ESPN’s Brooke Pryor. Pittsburgh is one of eight NFL teams that kick off their OTAs on Monday.
“Aaron Rodgers is in the Steelers facility this morning. He was one of the first guys in the building before 7am, left for about 45 minutes with a staffer and returned around 7:45,” Pryor wrote. “Steelers will be on the practice field for their first OTA practice at 11am.”
The 42-year-old quarterback will be hard at work learning Pittsburgh’s new offense this summer.
The Steelers brought in Mike McCarthy at head coach in what appeared to be an attempt to lure Rodgers back for another season. Rodgers and McCarthy spent several seasons together in Green Bay, which yielded one Super Bowl victory.
But a lot has changed from those Super Bowl days. McCarthy’s football philosophy has evolved and Rodgers is no longer the same quarterback. As a result, the Steelers need to mold their new scheme around what Rodgers does well.
It will be interesting to see how Pittsburgh dishes out practice reps at the quarterback position during OTAs. There is no contact allowed at this point in the offseason, clearing the way for Rodgers to participate if he wishes.
The Steelers now have four quarterbacks under contract which will make determining who gets what reps quite difficult.
Perhaps Pittsburgh will take a look at their quarterbacks during OTAs and part ways with one before training camp.
