IPL 2026: MI vs RCB Match 20 - Who will be Impact Players for today's match?
The Mumbai Indians take on the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Match 18 of the 2026 Indian Premier League, at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
The Mumbai Indians will be glad to return home after two losses on the road, against Delhi Capitals and the Rajasthan Royals. They opened their season with a win at home against the Kolkata Knight Riders, the first time they won their opening game since 2012. But MI are yet to find the right combinations. They are alsoawaiting the return of England all-rounder Will Jacks, who is absent due to personal reasons.
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru started their campaign with dominant wins against the Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings, but were beaten comfortably by the Rajasthan Royals. They have been bolstered by the return of Josh Hazlewood, who has returned after a long injury layoff. The defending champions will be looking to get their season back on track after the blip in Guwahati.
Here are the potential impact players for the two teams
Mumbai Indians:
Ashwani Kumar: The Punjab left-arm quick had a brilliant season in 2025, and with Trent Boult’s indifferent form, he would be expected to play a role.
Sherfane Rutherford: The big-hitting West Indian played a brilliant cameo against the Royals, and is expected to fill the spot in the middle-order until the return of Jacks.
Corbin Bosch: The Proteas quick has improved his death-bowling prowess. His handy batting will ensure he is one of the first names to be considered as a back-up, something that was exemplified when he came into the team in the absence of Hardik Pandya.
Robin Minz: The Jharkhand wicketkeeper-batter is one of the most highly-reputed finishers in the domestic game. He is yet to be given a prominent role in the season, but with MI needing firepower at the back end, he is expected to feature.
Raj Bawa: The Punjab all-rounder made his debut for the Mumbai Indians in 2025, but has not featured since. He has been splendid coming in as a substitute fielder, but has yet to contribute to the team with bat or ball.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru:
Suyash Sharma: Suyash Sharma has been RCB's go-to impact player since the 2025 season, but did not feature against the Royals. He is expected to take his spot once more in the team.
Venkatesh Iyer: The India all-rounder finally made his debut for the franchise when he came on as an impact player during the collapse against the Royals. He scored a brilliant 29 off just 15 balls, and his late cameo contributed to RCB’s ascent to 201 after losing wickets.
Jacob Bethell: The England hot prospect is yet to feature in the 2026 season. With his role being occupied by in-form domestic batters Devdutt Padikkal and captain Rajat Patidar, he is not expected to feature much this season.
Mangesh Yadav: The highly-rated left-arm seamer is yet to feature this season, but is expected to play soon.
Kanishk Chouhan: The young all-rounder, who was part of the 2026 Under-19 World Cup-winning team, is yet to feature but remains one of the options.
Expert opinions and strategies:
Home Advantage: The Mumbai Indians have the home advantage and would be hopeful that the Wankhede crowd would help turn their fortunes around.
Recent Form: The Mumbai Indians have won just two of the last eight encounters between these teams.
Balanced Side: RCB look like the more settled unit, with Mumbai yet to get their combinations right.
Final Prediction: The match is bound to be close with the prowess of these two teams, but with Mumbai yet to find their right playing combinations, the Royal Challengers enter this tie as favourites.
