IPL 2026: 3 players who can replace Ayush Mhatre at CSK
Chennai Super Kings have been dealt a significant blow in the ongoing Indian Premier League 2026 season, as young batter Ayush Mhatre has been ruled out due to a hamstring injury. The right-hander sustained the setback during CSK’s clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on April 18. Reports suggest he will be sidelined for six to twelve weeks, leaving a noticeable gap in CSK’s top order.
Mhatre had been one of the positives for CSK this season, scoring 201 runs in six matches at an impressive strike rate of 177.87. With his absence, CSK are expected to consider backup options like Urvil Patel, while also exploring potential replacements who can maintain the balance of the side.
Here are three players who can replace Ayush Mhatre in the CSK squad:
3) Tanmay Agarwal
Tanmay Agarwal would be more of an under-the-radar choice. The Hyderabad batter has solid domestic credentials, with 2296 runs in 82 T20 matches at a strike rate of 133.48. In the recent Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025-26, he impressed with 320 runs in 10 games at a striking rate of 172.04. Though he lacks IPL exposure, his current form and attacking mindset could make him a valuable addition.
2) Abhinav Manohar
Abhinav Manohar is another exciting option who is known for his aggressive batting in the middle order. Having represented both Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans, Manohar has shown flashes of brilliance, scoring 292 runs in 27 IPL matches.
His real strength lies in finishing games, especially during the death overs. His performance in the Maharaja Trophy 2025, where he scored 284 runs at a strike rate of 165.12, highlights his ability to change games quickly. While not a direct top-order replacement, he could add firepower to CSK’s batting lineup.
1) Mayank Agarwal
One of the most logical options is Mayank Agarwal, an experienced IPL campaigner who went unsold in the mini-auction at a base price of INR 75 lakh. Agarwal brings stability and proven pedigree, having scored 2756 runs in 131 IPL matches at a strike rate of 133.52, including a century and 13 fifties.
Although his recent stint with Royal Challengers Bengaluru was brief, he showed glimpses of form. His ability to anchor innings while accelerating when needed makes him a like-for-like replacement at No. 3, and his experience could be valuable for a side aiming to stay competitive.
