Insider hints at which NFL teams might be interested in Brendan Sorsby

After Brendan Sorsby was originally given an injunction to play the 2026-27 season with the Texas Tech Red Raiders after serving a two-game suspension, the would-be redshirt senior mutually departed ways with the program. He’s now a candidate for the Supplemental Draft, and it sounds like several organizations could be interested in adding Sorsby to their rosters.

But which teams will be in the mix for the 22-year-old quarterback? During a guest appearance on “The Rich Eisen Show,” insider Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network hinted at which clubs could be in the mix for Sorsby. While he names a couple of teams, Pelissero ultimately claims any franchise with question marks at quarterback could be eying Brendan Sorsby in the Supplemental Draft.

“I think that any team with even a passing quarterback need now, or in the foreseeable future, has to be interested in Brendan Sorsby,” claimed Pelissero. “Enough to do all the homework on him if it gets to a Day 2 pick. The real question is, would anybody go and use a first-round draft pick to go and take Brendan Sorsby in the Supplemental Draft?…

“We know the Browns have two first-round picks in next year’s draft… Hard to imagine that that is going to be the team… Could the Arizona Cardinals [be interested?]… Could the Vikings be interested? … That’s a hard one… Anybody who doesn’t necessarily know who their franchise quarterback is going to be, you’d be foolish not to fully research this situation.”

How the Supplemental Draft works is by using picks in next year’s draft. So, if a team were to use a first-round pick to acquire Brendan Sorsby, that franchise would forfeit that selection in the 2027 NFL Draft. Pelissero believes Sorsby is worth a late second or early third-round pick.

Brendan Sorsby initially transferred to Texas Tech in the offseason. However, he was allegedly caught wagering multiple thousands of dollars on different sports, including on games in 2022, on his own team when he was with the Indiana Hoosiers.

The NCAA banned him from playing the 2026-27 season before a judge gave him an injunction, which cleared him to play. But in the end, he and the Red Raiders decided it would be best if he left the program.

Sorsby played for the Cincinnati Bearcats last season and had arguably the best campaign of his four-year college career. He finished with 2,800 passing yards, 580 rushing yards (career-best), 36 total touchdowns (27 passing, 9 rushing), and a 61.6% completion percentage.
