Hurricanes’ Taylor Hall makes unique No. 1 pick history with Stanley Cup win
The Carolina Hurricanes have won the Stanley Cup for the second time in franchise history. Carolina came into Game 6 against the Vegas Golden Knights with one goal in mind. And they have achieved that goal with a 3-0 win, thanks in part to veteran Taylor Hall.
Hall scored a goal in Game 6 to get Carolina started. This goal helped him set a new franchise record for most points on the road in a single postseason. It’s been a long journey for the veteran winger, as he went 16 years between being drafted and winning his first Stanley Cup. According to the ESPN broadcast, this is the longest gap between being drafted No. 1 and a first Cup win in league history.
Hall has gone through a lot in his career. He was the No. 1 pick of the Edmonton Oilers back in 2010, when the franchise was going through its infamous Decade of Darkness. The veteran winger broke out for 80 points during the 2013-14, but he never quite matched that total in the next two seasons. This resulted in him being traded to the New Jersey Devils.
With the Devils, he won the Hart Memorial Trophy as NHL MVP in 2018. His 39 goals and 94 points from that campaign remain his personal career bests, as well. Unfortunately, he struggled with injuries in New Jersey. After a trade to the now-defunct Arizona Coyotes, Hall bounced around a few different teams.
He found his way to the Hurricanes in 2025 after a trade from the Chicago Blackhawks. And now, after 16 long years and seven different teams, Taylor Hall can call himself a Stanley Cup champion.
