Hull v Chelsea prediction

Hull entertain Premier League side Chelsea in one of the two opening FA Cup fourth round fixtures on Friday night.

The hosts overcame Blackburn on penalties to reach this point, with Chelsea thrashing Charlton 5-1 in the third round.

Odds of a ‘cupset’ isn’t as long as many others will be over the weekend, with Hull buoyant and upwardly mobile, sitting fourth in the Championship, just five points from an automatic promotion place.

The Tigers have been in fine goalscoring form under manager Sergej Jakirovic, with striker Oli McBurnie hitting a purple patch which they’ll be hoping can trouble this youthful Chelsea defence.

As for the Blues, Rosenior returns to his former side, having won six of his eight matches in charge of the Blues. The FA Cup representing a real chance of bagging his first piece of silverware at Stamford Bridge.

The visitors, should give opportunities to the likes of Marc Guiu, Mamadou Sarr and Alejandro Garnacho as they shuffle the pack from their midweek draw with Leeds.

Hull v Chelsea betting tips

Hull had been on a run of four wins and a draw in their last five matches, before a narrow 3-2 defeat to Bristol City on Saturday. The Tigers have netted at least two goals in four of their last six matches, which should give them confidence they can cause Chelsea a real threat.

Jakirovic will expect a response to that defeat and a cup match against top Premier League opposition needs no extra motivating.

Despite being prolific in front of goal in recent weeks, they have conceded five goals across three games.

The balance between their attacking intent and defensive openness will be crucial to controlling the match tempo.

Attacking depth

Hull could definitely have a say in this one, but it’s Chelsea’s attacking options that could end up firing them into the fifth round.

Rosenior’s men have plundered 16 goals away from home in all competitions in 2026 so far, this should ultimately give them the edge.

Guiu should be given a chance either from the start or off the bench. And despite their growing injury list, Delap, Joao Pedro, Pedro Neto and Garnacho should have enough in the locker to expose their Championship counterparts.

Hull, meanwhile will rely on contributions from midfield including Kieran Dowell, Liam Millar and Lewis Koumas to support McBurnie.

Rosenior’s midfield lineup will be intriguing to see and could be the decisive factor.
