How Yankees fans can watch Anthony Volpe’s next rehab start
After an 8-2 start gave way to a five-game skid, the New York Yankees lost 11-4 to the visiting Los Angeles Angels. Thursday afternoon’s loss led to a series split with the visitors, as the Yankees took the first and third games of the four-game set. With the Kansas City Royals coming to town for this weekend’s series, some reinforcements could be on the way. YES Network shared via X, formerly Twitter, that shortstop Anthony Volpe will make his next rehab start on Thursday evening for New York’s Double-A affiliate.

“@RealMichaelKay just mentioned it – Anthony Volpe will be in action for the @SOMPatriots Thursday night, and you can watch him on YES or The @gothamsports App!” posted the Yankees network on Thursday afternoon.
Volpe had surgery to repair a partially torn left labrum after the Yankees were eliminated in last season’s AL Division Series (ALDS). The 24-year-old tore his labrum at some point last season and played through it until New York’s defeat to the Toronto Blue Jays. The injury may have contributed in some part to his struggles last year, both offensively and in the field.
With this latest step in his rehab, Volpe will likely be back with the big-league club sooner rather than later. Jose Caballero has done a solid job in his absence, but he’s a better fit in the super utility role. Volpe has shown flashes of being the heir apparent to Derek Jeter’s throne. Once he makes his return to the big leagues, the clock will start ticking once again. Can the former first-rounder finally deliver on the promise that so many of the Yankee faithful had in him at one point? If so, a return trip to October could be even shorter in reach.
