How Yankees’ Aaron Judge helped Jazz Chisholm Jr. blast clutch HR vs. Red Sox
The New York Yankees beat the Boston Red Sox on Sunday, 6-1, to split a two-game set. It was a 1-1 game at the bottom of the eighth inning when the Bombers finally broke out. The final blow was a three-run homer by Jazz Chisholm Jr, who had an assist from injured Yankees captain Aaron Judge in the at-bat.

Chisholm was using Judge’s bat when he took Red Sox reliever Justin Slaten deep. Chisholm has been a bat-free agent of late, breaking out of an early-season slump by using Jose Caballero’s bat. The second baseman also started wearing Giancarlo Stanton’s pants around the time he broke the slump. The Yankees will take whatever works, as they beat the Sox on Sunday.
The Yankees are learning how to get by without Judge on the fly. Their offense struggled against the Cleveland Guardians to start the captain’s absence, and they lost on Friday to Boston. But Paul Goldschmidt’s clutch RBI, Cody Bellinger’s game-winning homer, and Chisholm’s dagger got them Sunday’s win.
Chisholm started the season by declaring his intention to join the 50-homer, 50-steal club. Only Shohei Ohtani is in that group, but Chisholm wanted to join. After an April 22 game against Boston, Chisholm had zero homers and a .498 OPS in 23 games. This was his eighth home run of the season, and he is now up to 16 stolen bases.
The Yankees hit the road to face the Guardians and the Toronto Blue Jays in a tough stretch. Judge and Stanton won’t be coming with them, and Max Fried is still working his way back from injury as well. The American League has been weak this year, but the Bombers need to pick up wins to stay atop the division.
Can Chisholm’s dagger homer against the Red Sox help spark the Yankees with Judge on the shelf?
