How Alex Cora responded to Red Sox cruising past Orioles 17-1
The Boston Red Sox were in desperate need of getting out of their slump and having a big offensive day. After getting swept by the rival New York Yankees this week, Boston dropped Game 1 of the series against the Baltimore Orioles in embarrassing fashion. With struggling ace Garrett Crochet taking the mound on Saturday afternoon, the Red Sox had an offensive breakout for the ages, putting up 17 runs in a drubbing of the Orioles.
It was a massive weight off the shoulders of manager Alex Cora, as his team showed up after the embarrassing loss on Friday night and made sure they weren’t going to lose like that again. The skipper gave his team major props after the game, via MLB.com.
“That happened last night, and we showed up today; you’ve got to give credit to them. It was a noon game, and we had our batting practice slot, and you saw them taking grounders, and the outfield work, and all that,” Cora raved. “That says a lot about the group, and we got a chance to win the series tomorrow. It was a good all-around game, we did a lot of good things. Offensively, we felt good yesterday, controlling the strike zone, swinging at strikes. Today we did the same thing.”
The last point Cora made was that tomorrow the Red Sox have a chance to win the series. From Friday night’s struggles to winning a series on Sunday afternoon might be just the thing to break them out of their slump.
