Boston Celtics investor Aditya Mittal and former team governor Wyc Grousbeck are preparing a bid for the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks.

According to Sportico, their signatures were the only two on the letter of interest submitted to Allen & Company, the company hired to handle the sale of the NFL team.

Mittal lives in London, meaning Grousbeck would reside in Seattle part-time and effectively operate the franchise, if their bid is successful.

They are the first interested party to be publicly identified in the Seahawks’ sale.

Mittal is the son of Lakshmi Mittal, an Indian billionaire businessman and steel magnate who serves as executive chairman of $62 billion-in-revenue ArcelorMittal, one of the world’s largest steel and mining companies.

Lakshmi has a net worth of $30.5 billion, per Forbes, and recently led a group that reached a deal to buy the Rajasthan Royals, an Indian cricket team, for more than $1.5bn.

The Seahawks were put up for sale just 10 days after winning Super Bowl LX back in February, and could command a record price for an NFL franchise.

They have been owned by the Paul G. Allen Estate since Microsoft co-founder and billionaire businessman Allen died in 2018.

Forbes lists the Seahawks with a value of $6.7bn — the 14th most valuable in the league.

The most recent NFL team sale saw the Washington Commanders purchased in 2023 for $6.05bn, in what was a record at the time.

That figure was surpassed last year during a historic moment for wider sports, when the NBA‘s Los Angeles Lakers were bought for a massive $10bn.
