Harry Maguire, Cole Palmer, Phil Foden and Adam Wharton left out of England squad – Jordan Henderson and Ivan Toney picked by Thomas Tuchel
Harry Maguire, Cole Palmer, Phil Foden and Adam Wharton have not made it into England’s World Cup squad.
Meanwhile, veteran 35-year-old midfielder Jordan Henderson has been selected by Three Lions boss Thomas Tuchel, as has Al-Ahli striker Ivan Toney.

talkSPORT also understands that Tuchel was concerned with the media attention he would receive if Maguire and Trent Alexander-Arnold were not selected.
Maguire has won 66 caps for England since making his debut in 2017, scoring seven goals for his country.
The 33-year-old previously missed out on a spot in the squad for Euro 2024 through injury, having represented the Three Lions at the 2018 and 2022 World Cups as well as Euro 2020.
Tuchel handed Maguire a surprise recall to the England squad in March, with the centre-back featuring against Uruguay and Japan. His inclusion was the first time Maguire had been selected by the Three Lions since September 2024 under Lee Carsley.
Despite making 24 appearances for United this season, the former Red Devils captain will be absent in North America.
‘Shocked and gutted’
Reacting to his omission, Maguire exclusively told talkSPORT: “I was confident I could have played a major part this summer for my country after the season I’ve had.
“I’ve been left shocked and gutted by the decision. I wish the players all the best.”

But there’s delight for Liverpool legend Jordan Henderson, now plying his trade at Brentford, as he earns a recall.
Henderson was left out of Gareth Southgate’s England squad at Euro 2024.
Toney is another surprise pick from Tuchel, with the 30-year-old former Brentford striker getting a seat on the plane after racking up 42 goals and 11 assists in 49 games in his second season in Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile, talkSPORT understands that Tuchel has ultimately decided not to select Chelsea defender Levi Colwill, having considered him for a call-up.
But one defender who has been selected is John Stones; the outgoing Manchester City defender making just eight Premier League appearances this season.
Also not going are Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton and out-of-form Chelsea attacker Palmer.
There is also no place in the final 26 for Phil Foden, who has endured a forgettable season with Manchester City despite the team picking up two trophies.
Neither Luke Shaw nor Lewis Hall have been picked, however, there’s a surprise selection for versatile Newcastle defender Dan Burn.
England’s regular centre-back pairing of Ezri Konsa and Marc Guehi are both all but guaranteed to be named in the side by Tuchel.
Goalkeepers Jordan Pickford, Dean Henderson and James Trafford will be Tuchel’s options between the sticks this summer, however, Henderson will report for camp late due to Crystal Palace playing in the Conference League final on Wednesday.

Brighton stopper Jason Steele is also set to travel to the tournament as a training ‘keeper after receiving his first senior call-up in March.
Both Anthony Gordon and Morgan Rogers are also expected to be part of the World Cup squad but Brighton forward Danny Welbeck, West Ham star Jarrod Bowen and Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White aren’t expected to make it.
Aston Villa star Ollie Watkins is selected as a back-up striker to England captain Harry Kane.
The Three Lions are set to face New Zealand and Costa Rica in warm-up matches after arriving in the USA next month.
They will then begin their group stage campaign against Croatia on Wednesday, June 17.
England also take on Ghana and Panama on June 23 and 27, respectively, in group L.
