Guardians breakout star reveals how Jose Ramirez has impacted his success

The Cleveland Guardians currently lead the American League Central. While the lineup is far from the best in baseball, it has a number of talented players. Jose Ramirez is a superstar. Steven Kwan has struggled but he is a two-time All-Star. Chase DeLauter has impressed. One player who is also making a significant impact is outfielder Angel Martinez.

Martinez, 24, is hitting .270/.314/.507 to go along with nine home runs heading into Tuesday’s game against the Detroit Tigers. Martinez is also a switch-hitter, and he happens to have the opportunity to learn from one of the best switch-hitters in the sport in Jose Ramirez.

On Tuesday, Martinez made an appearance on MLB Network and revealed how Ramirez has helped him with his switch-hitting.

“He helped me a lot on the mental side,” Martinez said. “With my mechanics, with my swing… I mean, on the mental side, he’s on a different level. He has helped me a lot.”

Martinez has already hit more home runs from the left side of the plate in 2026 than he did in all of 2025. He is improving overall, but his steps forward as a left-handed batter have been especially attention-catching.

It seems as if Martinez is becoming a breakout star. The Guardians feature enough pitching to win on a consistent basis but they have needed offense over the years. Martinez has been a difference-maker so far in 2026.

The Guardians hold a 27-22 record and a two-game lead in the AL Central heading into the game on Tuesday night against the Tigers.
