Grizzlies rumors: 1 potential Ja Morant replacement with draft trade up if he falls

The Memphis Grizzlies have a chance at two key players in the first round of the draft, as they look to restart their franchise. Ja Morant is still on the roster, but there is a good chance he’ll be traded this offseason, which means they could draft his replacement with one of the picks.

Many mock drafts have the Grizzlies selecting Cameron Boozer with the No. 3 pick, but with the No. 16 pick, they still want to trade up with the possibility of getting back into the lottery, according to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints.

“Then there’s the Grizzlies, who hold the 16th pick in the draft. Zach Kleiman has always been aggressive when it comes to moving up and down the draft board, as Memphis did a year ago when they moved up from 16th to 11th to select Cedric Coward,” Siegel wrote. “A similar move may very well be explored this season, with the Grizzlies wanting to find a key backcourt contributor for years to come in the first round.

“If Flemings were to fall past the Hawks with the eighth pick, the Grizzlies would be one of the many teams interested in moving up for him. Christian Anderson Jr., Philon, and Ebuka Okorie are all guards with strong ties to the Grizzlies throughout the pre-draft process with the 16th pick.”

There is a list of guards that could go in the lottery, and if the Grizzlies find a way to get back into the top-10, there’s a good chance they can get whoever falls. At the same time, if they stay at No. 16, one of Okorie, Philon or Anderson would be good options to add to their team.

With less than a week left in the NBA Draft, it will be interesting to see what the Grizzlies do in the first round.
