Graphic warning: Cody Rhodes spotted in public with nasty injury after WWE WrestleMania 42
In the main event of WWE WrestleMania 42 Night One, Cody Rhodes faced Randy Orton and defeated him in an extremely violent and brutal match. However, despite the outcome, Rhodes suffered an unfortunate ending and a nasty facial injury.
Toward the closing moments of the match, fans caught Orton landing a stiff punch just over Rhodes’ eye, which immediately busted him open. Later, during the WrestleMania 42 post-show, Rhodes was shown being treated by the medical staff via real-time footage. Rhodes’ face boasted a gory gash, and his left eye was swollen shut. Joe Tessitore and Rosenberg further commented on Rhodes’ potential concussion protocol.
Later, BodySlam+ reported that Rhodes was busted open in multiple places and had his eye swollen shut. The report also noted that the injury required multiple staples in his head following the WrestleMania 42 Night One main event.
WWE also revealed that Rhodes was currently not medically cleared to compete after suffering an orbital injury. There is also no confirmed timeline update on Rhodes’ return. Shortly after, on Sunday, Apr. 19, 2026, hours before the WrestleMania 42 Night Two show began, a picture started going viral on social media displaying Rhodes’ outcome from the Night One main event. The champion had a nasty black eye, which was swollen shut and bruising all over the left side of his face. Injuries are a common part of combat sports, and Rhodes handled them well and was soon spotted in public clicking photos.
