Pablo Torre reveals SEC opened Daktronics investigation concerning Kawhi Leonard
After the NBA dropped the hammer on the Los Angeles Clippers for circumventing the salary cap to pay Kawhi Leonard illegally in 2019, taking five first-round picks and suspending multiple officials, including Steve Ballmer, for the next year, Pablo Torre has delivered another bombshell piece of reporting that could add even more drama in LA.
Taking to social media after dropping a burger emoji on the initial reporting, Torre revealed that the SEC has stepped in regarding Leonard’s involvement with Daktronics, with the government agency seeking information on their dealings.
“BREAKING: The SEC has opened an investigation into Daktronics concerning Kawhi Leonard, according to the scoreboard-maker’s CFO on their earnings call today,” Torre wrote. “This is in addition to requests for information, related to the Clippers, from the NBA. ‘The Securities and Exchange Commission is seeking information from us concerning the company and [Kawhi] Leonard. We take these requests seriously and are cooperating.'”
As things presently stand, Leonard is expected to be officially traded to the Toronto Raptors as previously expected, even if the league could step in and adjust the compensation as a result of recent developments.
While only time will tell if the SEC finds anything regarding Leonard’s involvement with Daktronics, it appears that even after the NBA has ruled on the greater Aspiration allegations, there’s still a chance there could be more shoes to drop regarding under-the-table dealings in the future outside of the league. If the United States government is investigating Leonard’s dealings, there could be more to this story that has ramifications beyond NBA arenas.
