Giants rumors: Insider makes Malik Nabers injury return prediction based on past history

The New York Giants have been taking part in offseason workouts recently as they prepare for the upcoming 2026 NFL season. The Giants have had a busy offseason, headlined by the hiring of John Harbaugh as their new head coach, and are hoping to take a step forward next year.

One of the big question marks for the Giants heading into this season is the status of wide receiver Malik Nabers, who suffered a torn ACL injury about midway through last season, ending his 2025 campaign.

Recently, Giants insider Patricia Traina of Sports Illustrated broke down why New York could potentially expect the star wide receiver back in the lineup sooner rather than later.

“They went through it last year with left tackle Andrew Thomas, who suffered a Lisfranc injury in Week 5 of the 2024 season that required surgery, months of rehab… In Week 3 of the 2025 season, Thomas made his debut, working on a pitch count that basically amounted to him starting and playing the first half of that game before being removed from the lineup,” she noted.

Of course, Nabers and Thomas did not have the same injury, so it’s not exactly a guarantee that the wide receiver will be able to follow a comparable injury recovery plan. Still, if nothing else, it says a lot about the Giants’ training staff that they were able to get Thomas back into game shape such a relatively short time after his injury.

Nabers burst onto the scene as a legit star wide receiver for the Giants through the first few weeks of the campaign before the injury, which was suffered in the same game that Jaxson Dart made his starting debut as an NFL quarterback against the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Giants’ season is slated to get underway on September 13.
