It’s incredibly tough to win at Ascot, and you only need to look at the stats of the trainers coming into this to notice.

Aidan O’Brien is the top trainer at the track this season so far with seven winners from 32, the rest of the top four trainers: William Haggas, Joseph Patrick O’Brien and Andrew Balding each have five winners from a similar amount of runners.

Can there be a a couple of trainers to get into that top four during the King George weekend?

Ascot

• 14:55 – Silver Dominion 4/1 (1pt)
• 15:30 – Fireblade 9/4 (1pt)
• 16:05 – Theory OF Tides 9/4 (1pt)

Silver Dominion

Gymbaazy cruised into the lead on debut in a Class 3 Maiden at Sandown last time out and though he was ridden out, it looked comfortable.

He bided his time in behind the pack who were up against the rail and he moved out to his left to overtake them all, in a promising nature.

That said, he’s 4/1 in a wide open contest where others have their ratings in the high 80’s and 90’s but he’s very much unknown.

Amid the Amo Racing and jockey David Egan debacle they have Treasurer here who’s an 11/1 shot, but it’s 7f for the first time and best watched for now.

But Silver Dominion looks solid after his fourth placed effort just over three lengths off of Al Hudaiba and Abraham Lincoln in the Group 2 Superlative Stakes. He’s got to be the one to beat here.

Fireblade

Course and distance winner who has been rather consistent this season and is down to another handy mark where he should bounce back to winning ways again.

Especially as he’s back to his preferred 1m6f/2m trips, placing just half a length off here.

His Ascot runs have all been solid too, with a record of 27312 at this course alone.

Theory Of Tides

Al Azd placed 2nd by half a length behind Enceladus over course and distance last month at Royal Ascot, but for that effort in a 19-runner handicap he was upped 8lb.

That still seems a little steep considering, albeit in a huge field filled with horses rated in the 80’s.

Theory Of Tides does have a couple of negatives attached, given he’s having to carry 5lb more than the favourite.

But he’s a five-year-old with some decent experience and is still below his mark he achieved back in 2024.

After a couple of poor runs, one in the mud at Hamilton he was gelded before having a year off.

He returned to 1m2f to place close up twice in decent handicaps, before being switched to Jamie Osborne’s yard.

This gelding then had another 287 days off the track placing 2nd again at Sandown when 14/1 under Saffie Osborne on his first run for his new trainer, all looks quite promising as a result at a nice each-way price.
