Francisco Lindor makes brutal mistake that leads to Jeff McNeil scoring a run

The New York Mets have Francisco Lindor leading the hitting charge with Juan Soto out. But the five-time MLB All-Star delivered a brutal mistake involving Jeff McNeil against the Athletics.

The shortstop received a golden opportunity to pull off a double play. But Lindor misjudged during the top of the second inning moment as seen here:

Lindor’s miscue led to the A’s scoring a run. Plus it became a litany of mistakes from the Mets, as Anthony DiComo of MLB.com pointed out.

McNeil entered Saturday’s game admitting he had a “little argument” with Lindor in the past. But he cleared the air of that rumor with SNY.

“[Lindor] is a great guy and a good person, and I enjoyed my time playing with him,” he said. “I wish him all the best and he’s a great baseball player, one of the best shortstops to ever do it, so best of luck to him in the rest of his career.”

McNeil spent his first eight seasons in Queens, NY playing for the Mets. That includes helping lead the franchise to the 2022 and 2024 National League playoffs. Lindor played alongside McNeil from 2021 to 2025, making his first MLB All-Star game appearance as a Met last year.

New York jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. The A’s, however, combined to score seven runs in the second and third innings. McNeil joined Jacob Wilson in scoring twice on New York plus chipping in two hits. Lindor blasted one hit and scored one of the Mets’ runs. New York found itself down 7-3 in the bottom of the sixth.
