France vs Spain predictions
What a fascinating World Cup semi-final we have in store on Tuesday. Will France’s firepower be too hot for Spain to handle, or can the European champions maintain their excellent recent record against Les Bleus?
Before the action got under way this summer, Spain and France were the two outright favourites to win the tournament. But only one of them will be present in New Jersey for the final on Sunday.
Both teams have impressed so far, albeit in different ways. France are the only team at the tournament to have won every game inside 90 minutes. Having often played within themselves during the Didier Deschamps era, this team has dazzled with some of its attacking football.
Spain have been less spectacular than France and have not yet hit the heights of their upcoming opponents. Yet they have only conceded one goal so far and have exerted a degree of control that makes them dangerous opponents.
Spain left it late to see off Belgium in the quarter-finals, just as they had done against Portugal in the round of 16. On both occasions, Mikel Merino came off the bench to score the winning goal in the closing stages.
France were more comfortable against Morocco in the last eight, beating the Atlas Lions 2-0 after dominating the match from start to finish.
A front four of Ousmane Dembele, Michael Olise, Desire Doue and Kylian Mbappe is formidable, while midfield duo Manu Kone and Adrien Rabiot have exceeded expectations behind that quartet.
France have reached the last two World Cup finals, so this is a team that knows how to get the job done in the semis.
But Spain beat France on the road to glory at Euro 2024, as well as beating them in the Nations League semi-finals last year. This one is finely poised.
France vs Spain betting tips
France face Spain in the first of this year’s World Cup semi-finals, as two European heavyweights lock horns.
Place in final awaits
France have not really been challenged yet at this tournament.
They have won five out of six games by at least a two-goal margin, and although the 1-0 victory over Paraguay was tighter, Didier Deschamps’ men never really looked like losing.
Spain will take the ball away from them for a large chunk of this match, but that might actually suit France given how dangerous the likes of Mbappe, Dembele and Olise are in transition.
Spain will give France plenty to think about, but Les Bleus’ greater punch in the final third is likely to make the difference.

How many goals?
France’s last two games have featured under 2.5 goals, while that wager has paid out in half of Spain’s six outings this summer.
On this occasion, though, we anticipate at least three goals being shared between France and Spain, whose last meeting ended 5-4 to La Roja.
Spain have the best defensive record at the World Cup, but it is hard to see their rearguard halting this star-studded France frontline.
But with Lamine Yamal growing into the tournament, Spain will fancy their chances of breaching the France backline too. Attacks should get the better of defences on Tuesday.

So much talent on pitch
Kylian Mbappe seems to save his best form for the World Cup.
The France captain has scored in each of his six appearances so far this summer, finding the back of the net eight times in total.
The Real Madrid striker was forced off against Morocco after picking up a knock, but he will be in the starting XI at the AT&T Stadium.
Spain have defended well largely by controlling the ball, but the speed and quality of France’s attacking play – led by Mbappe – will be too much for the European champions.
