Forgotten Liverpool man called up for pre-season tour over a year after last appearance

Kostas Tsimikas has been included in the 31-man Liverpool squad for their pre-season tour this summer.

The Reds are preparing for their first season under new head coach Andoni Iraola, who replaced the sacked Arne Slot at the start of June.

Liverpool have flown to the United States for some friendlies, and will be based in Chicago for the duration of their tour.

Among the players set to be involved in their pre-season matches is Tsimikas, who has not played for the club since May 2025.

He spent the 2025/26 season on loan at AS Roma in Serie A, where he featured 25 times across all competitions.

Tsimikas made just six league starts for the club though and played only 1,050 minutes of football during his stint.

talkSPORT reported in May that the 30-year-old Greece international hopes to stay at Liverpool to fight for his place in the team.

The left-back could earn more game time next season following the exit of Andy Robertson, who joined Tottenham Hotspur upon the expiration of his Anfield contract this summer.

However, Milos Kerkez looks set to remain as their starter in the role, having shone under Iraola during their time at Bournemouth.

Tsimikas, who joined Liverpool from Olympiakos for a reported £11.8million in 2020, has less than a year remaining on his contract.

He has made 115 appearances across all competitions during his spell at Anfield.

Tsimikas is a Premier League winner with the Reds, and also lifted the FA Cup and two Carabao Cups.
