Florida A&M commencement speaker makes huge six-figure donation

Florida A&M University alumnus Omar Goff returned to his alma mater in a powerful full-circle moment—delivering the spring commencement keynote address and announcing a $100,000 donation to support the institution that helped shape his journey. Standing before a new generation of graduates, Goff’s message went beyond inspiration, underscoring a tangible commitment to giving back and investing in the future of FAMU students.

The six-figure gift, revealed during his address, was met with applause and emotion, reflecting both his gratitude and belief in the university’s mission. As graduates prepared to step into their next chapters, Goff’s contribution served as a reminder of the lasting impact of HBCUs—and the responsibility alumni carry to uplift the legacy for those who follow.

Goff donated $100,000 of his personal funds to the university, a gesture that quickly sparked a ripple effect. Two additional leaders stepped forward to match his contribution, significantly expanding the reach and impact of his initial gift and turning a moment of generosity into a collective investment in student success.

A 2004 graduate who earned his degree summa cum laude, Goff has built a successful career in corporate America since leaving the Tallahassee campus. After helping lead Mielle Organics—one of the nation’s most successful natural hair care brands—he now serves as an executive at Procter & Gamble. Drawing from his own journey, Goff spoke candidly to graduates about navigating uncertainty, embracing growth, and recognizing opportunity.

His $100,000 donation will establish the “Possibility in Action” endowment within the university’s School of Business and Industry (SBI), aimed at empowering future business leaders and entrepreneurs. The impact of the fund was further amplified by matching commitments from Mielle founders Melvin and Monique Rodriguez, as well as TIAA CEO Thasunda Brown Duckett, each pledging additional support to advance entrepreneurship and student development.

In his address, Goff left the Class of 2026 with five guiding principles: make excellence your brand; be authentic and confident; execute—not just dream; lead when opportunities arise; and build meaningful relationships. He also challenged graduates to push beyond ambition and step fully into purpose.
