Favourites to win 2026 PGA Championship: Scheffler and McIlroy to battle LIV Golf stars

The second golf major of the year is nearly upon us as the world’s best head to Aronimink Golf Club for the 2026 PGA Championship.

Five of the last nine major tournaments have been won by either Scottie Scheffler or Rory McIlroy, the two undisputed best golfers in the game.

Only Xander Schauffele, Bryson DeChambeau and JJ Spaun have had a look in since the 2024 Masters and that would suggest another elite name will claim glory at Aronimink.

Scheffler claimed his first PGA Championship title last year, holding off the field with ease and cruising to victory at Quail Hollow.

Scheffler was also runner-up to McIlroy at The Masters last month as the Northern Irishman went back-to-back at Augusta National.

Now, Aronimink will host the 108th edition of the PGA Championship and the stars will be on show once more.

Scottie Scheffler 7/2

Scheffler is a machine right now.

Of his last 21 majors, he has four victories, three runners-up, nine other top tens and just one missed cut.

It’s been a truly remarkable run of consistency at the very highest level.

Scheffler was brilliant at Quail Hollow last year and has been in superb form yet again throughout 2026.

He may have an eye on next month’s US Open as he looks to complete the Career Grand Slam but he’ll no doubt be a factor once more at Aronimink.

Rory McIlroy 7/1

McIlroy’s opening two days at Augusta were utterly superb and some of the best golf we’ve ever seen from him.

In typical Rory fashion, he made things complicated over the weekend but eventually won out, taking his major tally up to six.

He is eager to cement his place as Europe’s greatest ever player and is clearly focusing his efforts on the majors.

He also loves it at Aronimink, setting the course record of 62 there back in 2018.

McIlroy is already a double winner of the PGA Championship and he’ll be hard to beat in Philadelphia.

Bryson DeChambeau 10/1

A lot is going on in DeChambeau’s world right now and you would forgive him for being a little distracted in the second major of the year giving everything happening in LIV.

But DeChambeau has always been something of a maverick and few would be surprised to see him use the LIV mayhem as fuel to remind everyone of just how good he can be.

Bryson was pretty woeful at the Masters, missing the cut, but he has been brilliant in the majors in recent years.

He won the US Open at Pinehurst in 2024 and has been second at the last two PGA Championships.

DeChambeau withdrew from the most recent LIV event but should be fully fit for Aronimink.

It just remains to be seen what DeChambeau will turn up.

Jon Rahm 12/1

Like DeChambeau, Rahm is another superstar player heading to Aronimink under the heavy cloud of the LIV nonsense.

The Spaniard also struggled at Augusta but did well at the PGA Championship and US Open last summer.

For what it’s worth, he also won LIV Golf Mexico last time out.

The 31-year-old is a two-time major champion and adding a PGA Championship title to his CV would only leave him needing The Open’s Claret Jug to becoming a Grand Slam champion himself.

Rahm has cut something of a combative figure in recent months and he may also have a point to prove in Pennsylvania.

Xander Schauffele 16/1

Schauffele is another player with a superb major record.

From his 35 majors played, he has finished in the top 25 27 times, winning twice in 2024, of course.

He opened his major account with glory in the PGA Championship, birding his last hole at Valhalla after a final day 65 to beat DeChambeau by one stroke.

He followed that up quickly with glory at The Open last summer but has only one win since.

He did come third at The Players in March and performed well at the Masters, suggesting he is not far away from his very best again.
