Falcons signing former Bengals EDGE after Jalon Walker injury

The Atlanta Falcons suffered some tough news last week, as Jalon Walker will be out for the season after tearing his ACL during training camp. Walker was expected to be one of the key edge rushers for the Falcons going into his second season, and now the team will have to rely on the group of other players they have at the position.

By no surprise, they’ve already looked in the free agent market to build their depth, and they came away with a former Cincinnati Bengals player, according to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports.

“The Falcons are signing defensive end Cameron Sample, a source tells CBS Sports. Former fourth-round draft pick who played for the Bengals the last five seasons. Has 85 career tackles and 25 career quarterback hits,” Zenitz wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

The Falcons probably aren’t expecting the world out of Sample, but if he does get on the field, they’re hoping that he can make some type of impact.

As of now, there are still questions surrounding the Falcons’ defensive line, with James Pearce Jr. probably getting suspended for his charges from February. It’s still uncertain how many games he could get suspended, but Josh Kendall of The Athletic predicts that it could be around eight games.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Falcons continue to add players throughout the preseason, especially as other teams around the league make roster cuts.

After having the second most sacks in the league last season, the Falcons are looking to build on that success this year. They’ve added players across the board on defense, and the group could come back and have the same success. At the same time, with Walker out and Pearce possibly out for half of the season, there’s a chance they take a step back.
