Everton v Burnley prediction
Everton will head into Tuesday night’s Premier League clash in confident mood following their impressive 3-2 win at St James’ Park against Newcastle on Saturday afternoon.
The victory ended David Moyes’ side’s run of back to back defeats and saw them climb into eight position in the Premier League table, which is expected to be enough to qualify for European football next season, which would be the Toffees’ first time doing so in nine years.
Next in the Toffees’ sights will be Brentford, who head into the midweek round of Premier League fixtures just three points ahead of Moyes’ men, a gap they’ll be looking to close with victory over a struggling Burnley side on Tuesday.
The Merseyside club have struggled in their recent home performances though, and without a win at the Hill Dickinson Stadium since the first week of December, a run lasting seven games and including five defeats, so will be eager to get back to carry their weekend form into their clash in front of their home fans on Tuesday.
Burnley make the short trip to Merseyside in need of a result with relegation back to the Championship looming for them in their first season back in the top flight.
Scott Parker’s side came within a couple of VAR decisions of a dramatic victory on Saturday as they came back from 3-0 down against Brentford to draw level, only to lose 4-3 after they were twice denied a fourth goal by the video assistant.
The defeat leaves the Clarets eight points from safety and sat 19th in the table, but the side have seen an upturn in performances in recent weeks, picking up four points from their last three matches after a win at Crystal Palace and a point earned at Chelsea.
The Lancashire club have won only one of their last nine matches away from home, but have also lost only two of their last six, with those four points alluded to early being picked up from their last two home games.
Everton will be buoyed by their Tyneside triumph on Saturday while Burnley may still be licking their wounds after coming so close to the most dramatic of turnarounds but still managed to end the match with defeat.
The Toffees will be spurred on the possibility of drawing level with the top seven on Tuesday, a 2-0 home win seeming a distinct likelihood.
