European Championship 2028 odds: World Cup winners Spain tipped for more Euros glory

Spain beat the defending champions Argentina 1-0 in extra time to win the 2026 World Cup in New Jersey on Sunday night.

This was only the second World Cup title in their history and first in 16 years. But are we about to see another La Roja dynasty taking shape before our very eyes?

Having had an underwhelming start to their World Cup campaign with a 0-0 draw with Cape Verde, Spain steadily grew into the tournament – perhaps mirroring star man Lamine Yamal’s trajectory too.

They beat tournament favourites France in the semi-final. Completely nullifying the attacking quarter of Kylian Mbappe, Ousmane Dembele, Bradley Barcola and Michael Olise impressively in the 2-0 win.

The victory over Argentina means Spain have just broken Italy’s 37-game unbeaten streak record. 38 consecutive matches without loss, where Luis de la Fuente’s side also bagged the Euro 2024 trophy – having beaten England 2-1 in the final in Berlin two years ago.

It means they could replicate the great Spanish side of the late noughties and early 2010’s under Vincente Del Bosque. A team that included Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets and Iker Casillas went on a run of winning Euro 2008, the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012.

But with attention already turning to the Euros in 2028, are the World Cup winners tipped for more success in two years time? Where Yamal will still only be 21 years old.

Managerial changes

Four of the top six nations in the betting will have a new manager in charge for Euro 2028. This state of flux could even help Spain in pursuit of keeping their crown.

Zinedine Zidane will take the France hotseat after Didier Deschamps stepped down on Saturday. Deschamps had been in the top job since 2012 – and won the World Cup in 2018.

At the time of writing Jurgen Klopp is on the cusp of taking German national team job – with Julian Nagelsmann stepping down in the aftermath of Die Mannschaft’s round of 16 exit.

That could spark a new era in German football – but will there be enough time for Klopp to install his ideas and win a first Euros since 1996.

Elsewhere Ronald Koeman and Roberto Martinez have left their roles at Netherlands and Portugal respectively.

While Oranje are still yet to appoint a new manager, Portugal have appointed Jorge Jesus – the former Benfica and Al Nassr has signed a four-year-deal with the Portuguese FA.

Tuchel to stay?

Having guided England to a World Cup semi-final in his first major tournament. It appears boss Thomas Tuchel will be in the Three Lions manager for the home Euros in 2028.

Although enjoying some stand out performances along the way, Tuchel will need to rethink after more England heartbreak in the World Cup last four again.

England have contested the last two Euros finals – but lost both. Could they again be the chief threat to this Spanish dominance?
