Ed Sheeran and Ipswich players belt out singer’s smash hit in boozy dressing room celebrations

Ipswich Town celebrated their Premier League return in style with boozy celebrations alongside pop superstar Ed Sheeran.

The Tractor Boys players were joined in the home dressing room at Portman Road by the musician after clinching promotion thanks to a win over QPR on Saturday.

Kieran McKenna’s side came second in the table, guaranteeing an immediate top-flight return after suffering relegation last season.

It is also the third time in four seasons that Ipswich have won promotion.

Following the final whistle, thousands of fans streamed onto the pitch to celebrate with the players.

A video shared to the club’s social media channels has shown how the party atmosphere continued into the dressing room.

Promotion party

Boyhood Ipswich fan Sheeran, who purchased a minority stake in the club in 2024, joined the players for their post-match celebrations.

Footage from the dressing room showed him joining the squad in a rendition of his 2011 hit ‘The A Team’.

Sheeran had his arm round McKenna whilst holding a pint of Guinness as they belted out the fan-favourite track.

As the camera panned around the dressing room, the players could be seen joining in as they held up their own bottles and filmed on their phones.

The wild scenes came after Sheeran had missed the promotion party two years ago.

Instead, he was forced to Facetime the players as they celebrated ending their 22-year absence from the Premier League in 2024.

Fans will be hoping they can make their stay last longer this time around after relegation last season.

McKenna’s side finished 16 points from safety in 19th place as they won just four of their 38 matches.

Who has been promoted?

Ipswich will join Coventry City in the top-flight next season with the Sky Blues won the Championship title this term.

Frank Lampard’s side secured their promotion with three matches of the season remaining.

Coventry will make their Premier League return after 25 years away having last played in the top-flight back in 2000/01.

The promoted pair will be joined by the winners of the Championship play-offs.

Millwall face Hull City and Southampton take on Middlesbrough in the semi-finals, with the final taking place at Wembley Stadium on Saturday, May 23.
