Dodgers’ Dave Roberts shares pivotal Max Muncy update after injury scare

Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy experienced some freak injuries over the last couple of years, but he avoided a scary one during Thursday night’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The three-time World Series champion absorbed a head-on collision with Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Ildemaro Vargas in Thursday’s 3-2 loss. Both players were in immediate pain and forced to exit.

Muncy is not in the lineup for Friday’s matchup versus the Los Angeles Angels, but his manager did have some better news to share.

“Dave Roberts said Max Muncy has a bruise on his nose and he’s sore overall, but he’s ‘doing really well,'” Dodger Blue posted on X. “Muncy told Roberts he’d be ready to go tomorrow. Roberts doesn’t anticipate needing to manage Muncy given the day off for travel. Roberts hasn’t ruled out the possibility of Muncy pinch-hitting today, depending on how his work today goes.”

Like the Dodgers slugger, Vargas will be out of action for his team’s next game but is considered day-to-day. Disaster avoided.

Muncy will sleep this one off and try to get himself ready for what he hopes is a hugely productive June. The two-time All-Star is batting .254 with a .347 on-base percentage, .513 slugging percentage and .860 OPS with 14 home runs and 22 RBIs in 57 games this season.

He is vying for another invitation to the Midsummer Classic, but the Dodgers care more about what the 35-year-old left-handed hitter is doing in October. Max Muncy has a franchise-record 16 postseason home runs to go with an .817 OPS. Roberts and company will want him healthy for the three-peat push.
