Dodgers’ Brusdar Graterol takes massive step toward injury return
As the Los Angeles Dodgers work through a bit of a tough patch, losing their last three games and eight of their last 13, help may be on the way in the form of Brusdar Graterol, the hard-throwing relief pitcher who hasn’t taken the mound since Game 5 of the World Series last fall.
Taking to social media to break down the development, Oklahoma City Commets Communications Director Alex Freedman revealed that Graterol will be in OKC on Saturday to begin a rehab assignment, opening the door for his eventual return to the majors.
“Well this is a pleasant surprise. Brusdar Graterol has joined OKC today to begin a rehab assignment,” Freedman wrote. “He has not appeared in a formal game — Spring Training included — since Game 5 of the 2024 World Series.”
Initially joining the Minnesota Twins as an international free agent in 2014, Graterol was traded to the Dodgers in 2020 as part of a multi-player deal headlined by Kenta Maeda. All 213 games Graterol has appeared in have been in a Dodgers uniform, including three last season in the playoffs, and for his troubles, the 27-year-old has two World Series rings in his trophy case.
While the Dodgers’ pitching has been anything but an issue in 2026, with their starters routinely going deep into games and their relievers largely holding up their end of the bargain in the late innings, adding another piece to their bullpen should help to give Dave Roberts another arm to work with during the dog days of summer. Granted, Graterol won’t pull a Shohei Ohtani and fix the Dodgers’ biggest issue, scoring runs, but he is a quality addition all the same.
