“Dolphins HC Jeff Hafley said RB De’Von Achane did not report to the first day of voluntary offseason workouts today. ‘It’s part of the business,’ Hafley said.”

What will happen with RB De’Von Achane in 2026?

It makes sense from Achane’s standpoint. The Dolphins are going through a major rebuild. Achane is really the only major offensive piece they have remaining on the roster. And what that likely means for Achane is a season of overuse for a team that doesn’t win many games.

Therefore, it’s no surprise that Achane would want one of two things. He could be traded to another team that wouldn’t use him reasonably, with the team having a fighting chance to win. Or the Dolphins could pay him and make it worthwhile for him to be a workhorse this season.

Achane is eligible for a contract extension this offseason. His absence from voluntary workouts likely means he wants to get the contract in place. New head coach Jeff Hafley said things will be decided in time, according to the Dolphins’ post on YouTube.

“Those are talks for another time between Achane, (GM Jon-Eric Sullivan), and those guys,” Hafley said. “I’m not going to dive into those talks right now. That’s part of the business. It’s part of what every team goes through in those situations. And they’ll work it out.”

Achane rushed for 1,350 yards with eight touchdowns in 2025. He was clearly an elite NFL running back. And the Dolphins found a stretch of competitiveness toward the end of the season. But they fell short of a playoff bid because of the poor start to the season.

The overall disappointing season sent head coach Mike McDaniel packing. And the Dolphins have begun to remodel things after his departure.
