Derek Chisora names shock title fight Moses Itauma should take next with winner of Tyson Fury undercard clash

Derek Chisora wants Moses Itauma to take a step backwards and fight for a British title.

Itauma scored the most impressive victory of his glittering professional career to date, becoming the first heavyweight to stop Jermaine Franklin at the weekend.

Most of the boxing world believe there is no stopping the 21-year-old prodigy from rising to world level and dominating the division.

His handlers have even suggested that he will challenge for world honours by the end of 2026.

But British veteran Chisora has suggested that the power-punching phenom should slow down his career progression.

And he told talkSPORT that he believes Itauma should next target the winner of Jeamie TKV and Richard Riakporhe’s British title clash on Tyson Fury‘s undercard next weekend.

He said: “It doesn’t matter who you are, boxing can break you.

“Let’s give him time, we said that about AJ and Tyson Fury. Myself the same. I don’t know why everyone wants him to fight for a world title.

“He hasn’t even boxed for a British title. I believe he should fight for British title, Commonwealth and European title.

“The winner of Riakporhe vs TKV is a good fight for him. We need to not push him so fast, that is perfect for him.

“He should fight the likes of Michael Hunter.”

The victor of Chisora’s huge clash with Deontay Wilder in London this weekend, which is live on talkSPORT, could also be an option for Itauma.

But if the British icon wins, he will likely retire and call it a day after 50 gruelling professional contests.

When and who will Moses Itauma fight next?

After such an explosive victory, Itauma is struggling to be matched given his growing reputation as the most feared rising talent in the division.

Despite Chisora’s plea to look sideways, it appears that he will of course look upwards and forwards.

His promoter Frank Warren confirmed it will be a quick turnaround with his next fight to be against a big name in July.

And his manager Francis Warren previously told talkSPORT he will be petitioning for the winner of Richard Torrez and Frank Sanchez’s IBF world title eliminator.

He said: “The IBF being contested between Richard Torrez and Frank Sanchez, one of the guys has pulled out with an injury, so that has been delayed until the summer.

“So maybe Moses has one more. I’ll be in Vietnam for the IBF convention in May, petitioning for the winner of that fight.

“So he’s in a great position to challenge for all four of the governing belts.

“And it seems the IBF is the next one in the round robin that doesn’t involve a Queensberry fighter.”
