DeMarcus Cousins’ Luka Doncic 2nd Team All-NBA prediction will frustrate Lakers fans
Los Angeles Lakers superstar guard Luka Doncic has been named to the All-NBA First Team five times in his career. It will stay that way at least after the 2025-26 season in the eyes of former NBA star big man DeMarcus Cousins, who said during a recent episode of the “Run it Back” show
Asked which team he’d put Doncic on if it were up to him, Cousins, who is a two-time All-NBA Second Team and a four-time All-Star, said that the All-NBA Second Team sounds just right for the Slovenian guard.
“I’m gonna go second, just because of, you know, the team success. I can’t put him over Cade Cunningham. I can’t put him over Jaylen Brown. Obviously, Shai [Gilgeous-Alexander]. I’m gonna go second team. ”
There is no denying that Doncic is doing a lot of heavy-lifting for the Lakers, even with Austin Reaves and LeBron James flanking him.
The Lakers are believed to be going as far as where Doncic takes them, and he is also leading the league in scoring. So far in the 2025-26 NBA campaign, the former NBA scoring champion is putting up 32.5 points on a 47.3 percent shooting from the field. He is leading Los Angeles in assists with 8.5 dimes per outing. While not exactly viewed as a defensive player, Doncic is pacing the Lakers with 1.5 steals per contest.
Cousins mentioned team record as a major reason why he’s got Cunningham of the Detroit Pistons and Jaylen Brown of the Boston Celtics above Doncic, which is irrefutable based purely on their team records. Through Wednesday, Doncic and the Lakers have just 40 wins, while the Pistons and the Celtics have 46 and 43 victories, respectively.
In any case, there are games left to play for Doncic and the Lakers to tack on more wins.
