David Stearns sends painfully obvious message to Mets
The New York Mets are set to enter their game on Friday afternoon against the Chicago Cubs with a 7-12 record. Between injuries and underperformance, it has been a challenging start to the new campaign for New York to say the least. The Mets have lost eight consecutive games. Ahead of Friday’s contest, Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns shared a message for the team, via SNY Mets.
“We haven’t played good baseball for the last week for sure,” Stearns said. “Tough time scoring runs. It’s a combination of we’re not hitting great, we also ran into some good pitching. We need to play better and I think we will.
“I’m very confident we will and it can start today.”
The Mets certainly need to play a better brand of baseball. They are currently in last place in the National League East division. It is too early to completely panic, but New York’s start to the season has unquestionably been far from ideal.
The offense has especially been in a slump. New York is just 26th in runs scored, 26th in home runs, 26th in batting average and 29th in OPS. Juan Soto’s injury absence has negatively impacted the ball club, but New York’s performance is still surprising given how much talent is in the lineup.
New York will begin a three-game series with the Cubs in Chicago on Friday afternoon at 2:20 PM EST. The Mets will attempt to end their losing streak and get back on track during the series.
