CNN founder, ex-Braves, Hawks owner Ted Turner dies at 87 years old
Media trailblazer and the founder of CNN, Ted Turner, has died — the former owner of Atlanta’s Hawks and the MLB’s Braves was 87 years old at the time of his death.
Turner’s death was reported (via CNN) on May 6. According to the report, he died “peacefully” and was “surrounded by his family.”
“Ted was an intensely involved and committed leader, intrepid, fearless and always willing to back a hunch and trust his own judgement,” the Chairman and CEO of CNN Worldwide, Mark Thompson, said in a statement. “He was and always will be the presiding spirit of CNN. Ted is the giant on whose shoulders we stand, and we will all take a moment today to recognize him and his impact on our lives and the world.”
