CJ Cup Byron Nelson 2026 betting preview

Shock, horror, Scottie Scheffler now hasn’t won a golf tournament since January.

Whether going nine tournaments without a win can be classed as a ‘drought’ is dubious but those backing him at short odds each week are starting to feel the frustration.

Scheffler could only finish 14th in defence of his US PGA Championship crown last week but the CJ Cup Byron Nelson offers him another crack at winning an event for the second straight year.

The World No.1 romped to an eight-shot win here 12 months ago but that huge victory margin is reflected in his odds.

Yes, this is a modest field but he has 146 rivals and 17/10 for another Scheffler win seems very short.

Scheffler shot 31-under at TPC Craig Ranch last year but the course has had a serious revamp since then and the greens may need a year or two to settle.

Par is still 71 on the Texas course which measures 7,385 yards.

CJ Cup Byron Nelson 2026 betting tips

Here are some key betting tips and insights for the CJ Cup Byron Nelson 2026.

🏌️‍♂️ Austin Eckroat can land Texas title

One of the great appeals of golf betting is getting big prices on players who have a chance to win.

So 7/4 for Scheffler? No thanks. We could find those odds in a three-ball bet.

Instead, let’s try Austin Eckroat at 55/1 (1/4 Odds, 5 Places) with bet365.

The American has played this event just twice but in the first of those he finished runner-up.

A two-time winner on the PGA Tour in 2024, he’s returned to form in the last couple of months and his good run includes a tied 10th in the nearby Texas Open.

An elite iron player – he ranks 13th for Strokes Gained: Approach this season – Eckroat can cash in on a weak field whose best players may just be a little frazzled from the tough test in last week’s US PGA Championship at Aronimink.

Even if Scheffler is at it again and proves too hard to stop, the 55/1 is a great each-way price.

🏌️‍♂️ Jordan Spieth to beat Brooks Koepka in match bet

Jordan Spieth often shines in his home Texas events and that’s been the case here too.

Although he’s yet to win this title, Spieth’s four starts at TPC Craig Ranch have yielded a second (2022), a fourth (2024) and a ninth (2021).

That’s good reason to back him to beat Brooks Koepka in a 72-hole match bet at 8/11 with Betfair.

Koepka missed the cut on his only start at this course and continues to be dogged by poor putting.

It was again woeful in last week’s US PGA where he finished 55th.

Spieth was 18th at Aronimink and closed with an impressive 68, so back on home turf he can get the better of Koepka once more.

🏌️‍♂️ Blades Brown for Top 10

Blades Brown is a future superstar and the teenager has already played in the final grouping of a PGA Tour event alongside Scottie Scheffler.

That was in The American Express where the 18-year-old carded a second-round 60!

He’s mixed his time between the PGA Tour and Korn Ferry Tour since then but has been racking up the top 10s.

With a third and a ninth in two of his last four PGA Tour starts, Brown looks well worth a punt for a top 10 at 13/2 with Spreadex.
