Christian Pulisic hits back at ‘bad questions’ – but people realise he’s simply inconsistent

Christian Pulisic is ‘not concerned’ by critics questioning his form – but people have come to realise he’s simply inconsistent.

That’s the view of European expert Andy Brassell, who believes the end of AC Milan’s season will be pressure practice for the World Cup.

The ‘LeBron James of soccer’ will undoubtedly be the face of the USMNT’s hopes under Mauricio Pochettino on home soil this summer.

However, Time magazine’s recent cover star is under increasing scrutiny on the pitch after an extensive dip in form.

Pulisic enjoyed a positive start to the season, racing to joint top of the Serie A Golden Boot standings with eight goals by late December.

Yet the 27-year-old has since failed to net for club or country over the first five months of this calendar year.

Christian Pulisic’s goal drought and stats

Pulisic is enduring the worst run in front of goal in his club career, having gone 17 matches without finding the net for AC Milan.

The former Chelsea winger, who was the US star of the 2022 World Cup, hasn’t scored for the USMNT since November 2024.

Asked by Time about his plans to correct his 2026 slump, Pulisic responded: “I plan on scoring goals.

“Such bad questions. I’m not concerned about it, man.”

European football expert Brassell believes the 2026 World Cup will be the chance for Pulisic to turn a corner despite the added pressure.

‘He’s simply inconsistent’

“I think maybe it [the World Cup] will be a chance to reset,” Brassell exclusively told talkSPORT.com.

“I think getting away from the club context will be quite useful. There will be a lot of US soccer fans looking to him to lead the team.

“That is pressure, there’s no doubt about that, but to be removed from a context where it’s really gone south for Milan in recent weeks, and it could get worse. I think that will probably be quite a relief.

“You felt he kind of rose to the level. He was almost given Milan as his team, even more so than Rafael Leão.

“I think people have come to realise he’s simply inconsistent. Will he ever be able to find that consistency is a good question.

“Whereas Leão has had his position changed, Pulisic hasn’t. And he’s expected to score the goal and lead the team.

“He hasn’t been able to do the first part of that, certainly. Go back to the fact that he hasn’t scored in Serie A since late December.

“I mean, that’s one hell of a dry run. And now they’re at a point where, having been a title contender, say six weeks ago, or at least an outside title contender to challenge Inter.

“Now they are really hanging on grimly to a Champions League spot. For Pulisic to finally turn up with some goals in the last couple of weeks of this season would be huge for Milan because it’s everything for them to get to the Champions League.

“I guess that would be practice for the sort of pressure that he’ll have with US soccer.

“But I think ever since he was first at Dortmund, he’s been fated with being that guy who’s not just a scorer, but a sort of an animator of the attack, really.

“With Folarin Balogun, he scores goals, that’s his thing, and if he contributes a few other bits, that’s very nice as well, very welcome.

“Whereas Pulisic, the whole package is expected of him.”
