Chiney Ogwumike wildly celebrates sister Nneka’s game-winner in Sparks-Liberty
Los Angeles Sparks forward Nneka Ogwumike was mobbed by her teammates after hitting the game-winning three-pointer against the New York Liberty on Sunday. The Sparks escaped the Liberty, 98-97, much to the jubilation of the crowd at Crypto.com Arena.
The Sparks fought back from a 17-point deficit to steal the victory, with team legend Lisa Leslie in attendance to recreate an iconic moment in the WNBA.
Ogwumike created a memorable moment of her own, burying the Liberty with a cold-blooded bucket as time expired.
More than 2,800 miles away at ESPN’s studio in Connecticut, her sister, Chiney Ogwumike, wildly celebrated the game-winning basket, posting a video on X.
“MY BIG SISTER FOR THE WIN!” exclaimed the younger Ogwumike.

New York grabbed the lead with 8.6 seconds left after Breanna Stewart split her free throws. The Sparks had no timeouts left and raced to their end of the floor. While Erica Wheeler was driving to the lane, Ogwumike signaled to Kelsey Plum to dart to the corner after setting her a pick. It confused the defense, leaving Ogwumike open after she popped on the wing. Wheeler found her, and that was all she wrote.
The 35-year-old Ogwumike, who returned to Los Angeles in the offseason, finished with a game-high 24 points on 11-of-18 shooting. She added six rebounds, three assists, and three steals. She scored 12 points in the final 3:50, including a three-pointer that tied the game, 93-93.
She surpassed former superstars Candace Parks and Tina Thompson for the most go-ahead field goals in the last five seconds in team history.
The Sparks improved to 8-8, while the Liberty fell to 11-6.
