Canadiens’ Jakub Dobes makes epic save on Jackson Blake breakaway in Game 4

The Montreal Canadiens lost Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals in overtime. Jakub Dobes stood on his head to help get his team to the extra period, but eventually, the Carolina Hurricanes broke through. Dobes again needed to withstand a surge from Carolina in Game 4.

The Canadiens and Hurricanes battled for the puck in the first period. Somehow, Carolina forward Jackson Blake was sprung free for a breakaway. However, he was not able to slip the puck past Dobes. The Habs netminder made a fantastic skate save to keep his team in this contest.

Unfortunately, Dobes was not able to completely hold the line in Game 4. The Hurricanes have scored three goals in the opening period. Sebastian Aho, Jordan Staal, and Logan Stankoven have all found the back of the net for Carolina.

Dobes is also not receiving a ton of support from his offense. The Canadiens did not score a goal in the first period. Moreover, Montreal managed just five shots on goal through the first 20 minutes of play.

Montreal’s inability to put pucks on the net is not a new trend. In fact, they only managed 13 shots the entire game in Game 3. Of course, the Canadiens also won Game 7 over the Tampa Bay Lightning in round one while managing just nine shots on goal.

Regardless of the offensive woes, Dobes is doing his team no favors with his first-period performance. The save on Blake early in the game was certainly needed. But he will need to make similar saves with more consistency if the Habs want to emerge from Game 4 victorious.
