Caitlin Clark clearly hurt after flagrant foul in Wings game

The Indiana Fever took to the court for the first time this season, and fans were excited for WNBA action to be back, even if it was just the preseason. Unfortunately, fans had to witness an injury scare involving Caitlin Clark just minutes into the contest.

The Dallas Wings were in town, led by second year star Paige Beuckers and No. 1 overall pick Azzi Fudd, for the first preseason game for both teams.

With 7:51 remaining in the third quarter, Caitlin Clark elevated for a three-pointer, but was undercut by Wings center Alanna Smith. Clark went down with an apparent ankle injury, but was able to stand back up and walk it off. After replay review, the officials upgraded the foul to a flagrant foul penalty one on Smith, giving Clark three free throws and possession of the ball to Indiana.

Clark knocked down two of the three freebies, giving her 21 points on the night. Immediately after the made free throw, however, Clark was substituted out of the game by new first round pick Raven Johnson.

Caitlin Clark did not return to the game, finishing the game with 21 points, two rebounds, and four assists on 4-of-6 shooting from the field, 2-of-3 from three, and 11-of-13 from the free throw line.

The Wings went on to defeat the Fever, 95-80, led by Paige Beuckers’ 20 points, two rebounds, and three assist night on 8-of-12 shooting from the field.
