Buster Posey reveals why Giants traded Patrick Bailey to Guardians

The San Francisco Giants made a deal earlier in the day, sending Patrick Bailey to the Cleveland Guardians for the No. 29 pick in this year’s draft and left-handed pitching prospect Matt “Tugboat” Wilkinson. It seems like the writing may have been on the wall for Bailey after he didn’t start this past week, but now, he gets to go to a situation where he may be able to get back on track.

Buster Posey spoke with the media following the trade and shared why he decided to make the move.

“It’s more the confidence we have in Jesus Rodriguez and Daniel Susac, and just the strides that we feel as an organization they’ve made defensively,” Posey said via Alex Pavlovic of NBCS. “Both of them are swinging the bat well. Patty has been off to a slow start offensively this year, but as a whole, trying to find ways to get more runs on the board.”

Posey was then asked how Bailey took the news when he found out he was being traded.

“He was a pro this whole last week, with not even starting like he normally does. He was just a pro about it,” Posey said.

Bailey hasn’t played the best this season, and through 30 games, he’s hitting .146/.213/.183 in 89 plate appearances.

As for the Guardians, they’ve been solid this season, as they’re currently 21-19 and are in first place in the AL Central. Bo Naylor and Austin Hedges are the top catchers on the team, and with Bailey being added to the fold, they have a nice rotation.

The Giants seem to be content with the growth and development of Rodriguez and Susac, and will roll with them for the rest of the season. They’re currently 15-23 and are in last place in the NL West.
