Buccaneers’ Bucky Irving gets promising timeline after offseason shoulder surgery
There is some good news on the injury front for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, particularly concerning the status of running back Bucky Irving.
The former Oregon Ducks star running back went under the knife in the offseason to address a shoulder injury, but he appears to be on track to be ready to go come the first week of the 2026 NFL season. He is also expected to participate in offseason work on the field with the Buccaneers, according to NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN.
“Bucs RB Bucky Irving is rehabbing from off-season shoulder surgery and should be ready later this summer, per source. Irving is not expected to participate in mini-camp in a few weeks, but he is likely to be ready at some point during training camp,” Schefter shared via a social media post on X, formerly Twitter, on Tuesday.
The 23-year-old tailback saw action in just 10 games (nine starts) in the 2025 NFL campaign, as he was limited by his shoulder injury. He appeared in Tampa Bay’s first four games before missing all games between Week 4 and Week 13. He returned to action in Week 13 and played six games, but he apparently still needed surgery to address his nagging shoulder issue.
In the 2025 season, his second in the NFL, Irving led the Buccaneers with 588 rushing yards to go along with a touchdown on 173 carries, while adding 277 receiving yards and three touchdowns on 30 receptions and 35 targets.
The Buccaneers will kick off their 2026 campaign with a road game on Sep. 13 against the Cincinnati Bengals at Paycor Stadium in Cincinnati.
