Browns head coach shuts down Myles Garrett concern during offseason

NFL teams have begun having their voluntary workouts, and just like it says, players can show up if they like. If they don’t show up, that seems to be fine as well. This year, there’s a spotlight on Cleveland Browns star Myles Garrett not showing up to the workouts, which is something he has consistently done for the past few years.

With this being Todd Monken’s first season with the team, some may suspect that it’s a good time for players to come together and get used to the new regime. For Monken, he’s not worried about Garrett not being there.

“This is voluntary for our players to be here,” Monken said via Browns’ beat writer Mary Kay Cabot. “I think if you asked every coach in the NFL if they’d like every player to be there, of course. I think there are certain parts of what we do from a connection standpoint that I think it’s important to be here. From a schematic standpoint, from a work standpoint, not so much. It is our job to make it where the guys want to be here. Not by their job, but by their development, from their camaraderie, being part of the team.

It was already reported that Garrett was not attending voluntary workouts, which has been a trend for him. This doesn’t seem to be because a trade is in the works, which many thought could happen after they adjusted certain portions of his contract.

Nonetheless, the Browns said they were adamant about not trading Garrett, and the trade rumors had nothing to do with the motivation for what they did in his contract, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.

When it’s time for the Browns to have mandatory workouts, then Garrett should most likely be in the building.
