Brewers’ Jacob Misiorowski pulls off historic feat in start vs. Cubs
The Milwaukee Brewers are back on top of the NL Central standings, hitting their stride early on. On Tuesday, they took care of business in a clash against division rival Chicago Cubs thanks to an excellent start from Jacob Misiorowski, who is turning heads with each passing start in his first full season in the big leagues. Only 24 years of age, Misiorowski is looking like a contender for the NL Cy Young Award early on in the season.
Misiorowski entered his Tuesday night start against the Cubs sporting an ERA of 2.12 in nine starts (51.0 innings of work). He’s been sporting an insane strikeout rate of 14.12, and his fWAR is off the charts at 1.9 with not even a third of the season underway.
And he continues to deliver for the Brewers, as he pitched another flawless game — tallying eight strikeouts against just three hits and one walk without giving up a run in a 5-2 win over the Cubs. In so doing, Misiorowski became just the only pitcher in MLB history to have a four-start span with 30 strikeouts without allowing a single earned run and an extra base hit, as per OptaSTATS on X (formerly Twitter).
What makes this an even more incredible feat for the Brewers starter is that he didn’t exactly face cakewalk opposition during that four-start stretch. The Cubs have tailed off a bit after a slow start, but they still have a 29-20 record on the season.
His two previous starts prior to Tuesday night came against the New York Yankees and San Diego Padres; those two teams have a combined 59-38 record at the time of writing. Even the Washington Nationals have been good this year, as they have hung around the .500 mark with a 24-25 record.
Misiorowski is now sporting an ERA of 1.89 in 10 starts (57.0 innings) all while dominating the opposition with 88 total strikeouts.
