Braves rumors: CJ Abrams, other shortstops mentioned as possible Atlanta trade targets

The Atlanta Braves have the best record in MLB. They feature a complete team for the most part. Still, Atlanta could look to upgrade its roster before the MLB trade deadline. While trading for Tarik Skubal could make sense, the Braves have more than only pitching to pursue. Atlanta could potentially look to make a trade for a shortstop.

Mauricio Dubon has performed well, but he is a utility player. The Braves may prefer to have him in a more versatile role as opposed to the everyday shortstop.

Meanwhile, Ha-Seong Kim was expected to be the starting shortstop when he re-signed with the Braves this past offseason. An offseason injury led to him missing the first portion of the new campaign, however. Kim has struggled since returning. In fact, Kim has been mentioned as a trade candidate.

Bradford Doolittle of ESPN recently revealed three possible trade targets for Atlanta in a recent article. Doolittle believes the player must be a “clear upgrade.” CJ Abrams, Willy Adames and Jeremy Pena were mentioned by Doolittle in the article.

It remains to be seen if those players will be made available for trades. If they are available, perhaps the Braves will consider reaching out to their teams.

Rumors have suggested that the San Francisco Giants are not interested in trading Adames, Rafael Devers and Matt Chapman. Meanwhile, Pena’s Houston Astros could still compete in the winnable American League West despite their underwhelming season. It seems as if Abrams could potentially be moved. The Washington Nationals have upset expectations, but their chances of making a serious run in the competitive National League still appear to be slim.

The Braves do not realistically have to trade for a shortstop, but making a deal would not hurt their current situation.
