Braga vs Freiburg predictions
Fans of Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa are preoccupied with their own Europa League semi-final, but the winners of the all-English tie will face Braga or Freiburg in the final.
This is an intriguing encounter in its own right. Neither Braga nor Freiburg can be called a European powerhouse.
Unlike Forest and Villa, both of whom have won the European Cup, Braga and Freiburg have never got their hands on a continental trophy before.
You would have got good odds on this pair reaching the semi-finals before the tournament got under way.
Braga had to begin their campaign back in the second qualifying round after a fourth-place finish in the Portuguese league in 2024/25.
Eliminated in the league phase last term, Braga finished sixth this season after losing only one of their first eight games.
So far in the knockout stage, a team managed by Carlos Vicens, a former assistant of Pep Guardiola’s at Manchester City, have eliminated Ferencvaros (4-2 on aggregate) and Real Betis (5-3 on aggregate).
Freiburg ended the league phase in seventh spot after amassing 17 points, the same number as Braga.
The German outfit beat Genk 5-2 over two legs in the round of 16, before defeating Celta Vigo 6-1 on aggregate in the quarter-finals. This is the first time they have ever got beyond the last 16 of a European competition.
“We enjoyed the moment, but we won’t stop working. It’s just the next step,” said their manager Julian Schuster after the defeat of Celta Vigo in the last round.
Braga vs Freiburg betting tips
Braga meet Freiburg in the Europa League semi-finals, with the first leg set for Thursday in Portugal.
Braga to establish lead
This is a hard one to call. The two teams had virtually identical records in the league phase, which shows there is not much to choose between them.
In terms of the first leg, though, we lean towards Braga. Home advantage remains key in European football and it is a benefit which belongs to them on Thursday.
Including the qualifying rounds, Braga have won seven and drawn one of their nine home games in the Europa League this term.
Vincens’ charges are a tough nut to crack in front of their own supporters, which is why we fancy them to come out on top in the first leg.

Freiburg can find net
When Braga are in full flow, they are a difficult team to handle. Their attacking players often interchange positions, giving opposition defences plenty to think about.
They are an intense outfit too, pressing all over the pitch in a bid to disrupt the other team’s flow.
Freiburg’s strength lies at the other end of the field, with only seven goals conceded in their 12 Europa League matches this season.
They are not necessarily the easiest team on the eye going forward, but Freiburg have enough about them to breach Braga’s backline. Goals at both ends is the way to go in this one.

Horta to make difference
Rodrigo Zalazar is Braga’s top scorer this season, both in all competitions and in the Europa League.
But he is not guaranteed to be in the starting XI on Thursday as he continues to work his way back to full fitness.
Ricardo Horta is our pick to find the back of the net. He is only one goal behind Zalazar in Braga’s scoring chart, having beaten opposition goalkeepers 21 times in 2025/26.
The 31-year-old’s experience could be just as important to Braga as his quality in this tie with Freiburg. Perhaps he will be the difference-maker in the first leg.
Go for Ricardo Horta to score any time at 2/1 with 247Bet
