Rocket Classic 2026 betting preview

After just missing out on Open glory, Cam Young returns to the PGA Tour this week.

The American, who lost out by a shot to Ryan Fox at Royal Birkdale, is favourite to go one better here and capture his third win of the season.

Adding to his claims is previous course form which shows second place in 2022 and sixth in 2024.

This week’s track, Detroit Golf Club, has undergone major renovations since last year’s edition.

Par has been cut from 72 to 70 and it now measures 7,328 yards.

There are now just two events to go until the start of the FedEx Cup playoffs – wow, this season has gone fast – so there will be much jockeying for position as players try and finish in the top 70 who go forward.

Brooks Koepka (84th) is one of those on the outside looking in so his withdrawal on the eve of the tournament has come as a surprise.

Massive-hitting Aldrich Potgieter won this event last year and he returns to defend.

Here are some key betting tips and insights for the Rocket Classic 2026.

Go Johnny Keefer go

Youngster Jackson Koivun won last week’s 3M Open and this could be another good chance for a rookie to come to the fore.

The one who stands out is Johnny Keefer, who made an excellent impression on the links of the UK earlier this month.

The 25-year-old – like last year’s winner Potgieter, a huge hitter – finished third in a world-class field in the Scottish Open and played some good stuff on his Open debut (25th at halfway) before fading away.

Perhaps tired from his trip, he opened with a 76 in last week’s 3M Open and missed the cut but a second-round 66 there shows he should be ready to go on another birdie blitz this week.

Chris Gotterup to beat Jackson Koivun in match bet

Chris Gotterup is a three-time winner on the PGA Tour this year and I’m going to back him in a 72-hole match-bet at 10/11 with bet365 to get the better of last week’s winner Jackson Koivun.

The latest of Gotterup’s wins came at the John Deere Classic earlier this month and he followed that with 11th in the Scottish Open and 18th in The Open.

Koivun is obviously on a high after last week’s victory but it’s asking a lot for him to thrive again after all the increased focus following his first PGA Tour win

Gotterup has made all three cuts here (26th last year) while Koivun didn’t make the weekend in his only appearance in 2024.

Koivun obviously has an amazing future ahead but World No.7 Gotterup is one of the absolute stars of 2026 so I’m surprised to see this priced up as a 10/11 pick ‘em.

Ben Kohles for Top 10

It’s been a superb couple of months for Ben Kohles and the American is worth a punt in the top 10 market at 15/2 with Sky Bet.

Kohles won the Korn Ferry Tour’s BMW Charity Pro-Am in June and hasn’t looked back since.

After 23rd in the US Open, he’s gone 3-15-9 in three PGA Tour events in July.

One of the best ball strikers around, his putter has warmed up too so there’s a great chance he can keep the good times flowing with another top 10 here.
