Blue Jays’ John Schneider shares huge George Springer update after injury scare vs. Twins
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer has been having some terrible luck with the toe injury he has suffered for most of the season. Springer left the Blue Jays’ game on April 11 against the Minnesota Twins after fouling a ball off his toe, and in his fourth game back on Saturday afternoon, he suffered the same fate against the same team with a pitch off his toe. It looked bad for Springer, but the injury wasn’t quite as bad as expected, according to Shi Davidi via X, formerly Twitter.
“John Schneider said X-Rays revealed no further damage to George Springer’s toe or foot. Pitch struck off the guard he’s wearing over the cleat. Blue Jays planned to rest him Sunday anyway, and ‘we’ll see how he is throughout the day tomorrow and on Monday,’ the manager added,” Davidi reported.
Springer had been playing well since his return, raising his average from .185 to .215 after a rough start to the season. He lined out in his first at-bat on Saturday afternoon, before getting struck by the pitch in the third inning and getting replaced by Jesus Sanchez.
The Blue Jays took care of business on Saturday afternoon without Springer, winning 11-4 to get within one game of being back at a .500 record. Toronto had a similarly rough start to the 2025 season before a hot finish led them all the way to Game 7 of the World Series. They are hoping their lead-off hitter, Springer, can stay healthy the rest of the season and replicate it in 2026.
