In a remarkable and controversial twist following Bangladesh’s shocking exit from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has reinstated director M Nazmul Islam as chairman of its finance committee, just days after removing him amid player protests and board unrest.

The decision comes against the backdrop of Bangladesh’s shocking removal from the World Cup, after the board refused to participate under the existing schedule in India, which led to the International Cricket Council (ICC) replacing Bangladesh with Scotland for the marquee event.

Islam’s reappointment was confirmed at a BCB board of directors meeting, where his role was formally restored following review of his response to a disciplinary show-cause notice. According to BCB sources, the board was satisfied with the explanation submitted by Islam, prompting the reversal of last week’s sacking.

A senior board official claimed that the disciplinary committee’s observations were forwarded to the full board, which decided to reinstate Islam at the president’s direction.

"We had given our observation to the board, and the board made the call," BCB disciplinary committee chairman Faiazur Rahman informed The Daily Star.

The saga began earlier this month after Islam made a series of controversial remarks, including labelling former captain Tamim Iqbal an ‘Indian agent’ in the heated context of Bangladesh’s World Cup participation dispute.

We have accepted the decision: BCB Media Committee Chairman

BCB Media Committee Chairman Hamzad Hussain has cleared the air on BCB’s stance on ICC’s decision to drop Bangladesh from the World Cup.

“We have accepted the decision of the ICC board. Since the ICC has said that we cannot go and play or they cannot shift our games to Sri Lanka, in this case we cannot go and play in India. Our position remains the same. We are not going to any separate arbitration or anything here," Amzad said, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

“The ICC asked us to reply within 24 hours. We told them politely that it is not possible for us to go and play according to this fixture," he added.

Meanwhile, Scotland has now officially replaced the Bangla Tigers for the ICC Men’s World Cup 2026.
